Risk Factors
When investing in financial products, there are various risk factors to consider, which will vary based upon the nature of the product and the investors circumstances. Generic risk factors to consider include, but are not limited to, the following:
Past performance is no guide to future performance and may not be repeated. The value of investments and income from them may fall as well as rise and investors may not get back the amount originally invested.
Tax assumptions are subject to statutory change and the value of tax reliefs will depend on your individual circumstances.
Exchange rate changes may cause the value of overseas investments to rise or fall.
Investing in smaller companies can carry greater risks than those usually associated with large capitalisation companies.
Venture Capital Trusts
In relation to VCTs, the following generic information is provided. This should not be considered as a comprehensive explanation of the characteristics of and requirements associated with all VCTs and circumstances.
Investors must retain their VCT shares for five years to retain the up-front income tax relief. Please remember that the tax rules and regulations governing VCTs are subject to change. The tax reliefs available to certain investors in VCTs are dependent on individual circumstances as well as the VCT maintaining HM Revenue & Customs approval. If this approval is withdrawn, a VCT will lose its status and all tax reliefs are likely to be cancelled.
The share price of a VCT may not reflect its net asset value. There is only a limited secondary market for shares in VCTs which may render such shares difficult to sell as they may not be readily marketable. VCTs invest in unquoted and AIM-quoted companies which are therefore smaller and carry a higher level of risk than shares which are listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange. The shares of VCT investee companies may not be readily marketable. Before making an investment, ensure that you have read and understood the risk warnings set out in the VCT prospectus and Key Information Documents. An investment in a VCT should be regarded as a long-term investment.
Conflicts of Interest
Conflicts of interest may arise through either Gresham House role and/or the relationships it has with the entities it advises and other parties. Gresham House has a conflicts of interest policy designed to enable it to avoid, manage, mitigate and/or disclose (as appropriate) such conflicts, when they are identified.
